Purpose is to be safe and have fun while increasing player skills in dribbling, passing, shooting , 1v1 defending, scanning, communication and basic understanding of basic positioning with its associated terminologies. Start the reflection process for our coaches and the experiential learning process for our players
NO Heading! NO coaches lobbing the ball onto the field!
Pregame Warm up 15 minutes - static stretching is not needed at this age - dynamic stretching could be introduced with static stretching as recovery at the end:
*Dribbling with ball to get fitness in too - 2 minutes
* intro rondos to work on passing - 3 minutes
*Mini 1v1 games - 5 minutes
Explain your formation and why while players hydrate - 5 minutes
Simple formation:
2-2 (2 defenders for that line and 2 attackers for that line)
*Lanes and lines formation style
**If your adding 1 more player (only) to make it 5v5, then add to 1 of the lines please-make sure your have 2 lines (attacking line and defending line) - minimize all playing "magnet ball"
***If you have extra players, have a coach off to the side work on some dribbling and passing with cones while they are ready to be subbed into a game please. This can also help you stay with a 4v4 format which is strongly suggested. Everyone stays moving!
Advanced formation:
1-2-1 (1 defender, 2 midfielders and 1 attacker)
Goals scored:
*Restart game at half with the opposing team having the ball
Goalkeepers:
NONE! Make sure players are not standing in front of the pug net the whole time.
Goal kicks - when ball goes out of bounds at the endline:
*Place ball to the right or left of the pug net, pass to open player on your team (prefer to a side)- opponents stay at half till ball comes into play. This called "building from the back"
Throw ins:
*Watch for proper technique here please and explain before they throw in
*Ball over head, feet stay in the ground and feet stay behind white line - if wrong give to the other team because that is a turnover (prepare for 3/4)
*Find the open player going to the goal or looking for triangles
Rules:
Continue mentioning hand balls and offsides
These will be re-enforced in the Grade 2 player development pickup games
Team shifting:
*Attacking half of the field, your team shifts up where your defending line is close or at half field
*Defending half of the field, your team shifts back to defend goal- your forwards/attacking line applies pressure to win ball back and continues to come back to around midfield line to help
* Team continues stay in their shape to shift to the right or left pending where the ball is on the field
Coaches' Reflection - spend lass than 5 minutes
*Where are they successful? Mention a few areas
*Where to improve - If unsuccessful ask guided questions to check for their understanding at halftime or end of the game
Are players using their weak foot to pass or shoot? How is dribbling overall?
Are players communicating? How is their positioning overall?
Are players scanning or looking for a triangle to make that extra pass?
Are players dribbling with head down?
Are players containing their 1v1 - defending moments in the game?
