Medford Soccer Uniforms Make Their Way to Malawi School Teams

A big thank you to girls Medford Soccer coach Jenn Flynn and uniforms coordinator Sheilagh Yee for organizing a hugely successful uniform drive over the summer, and to all the families that contributed their game-worn kits!

Coach Jenn led the way in partnering with Tufts University’s humanitarian engineering project to gather over 200 of our retired soccer uniforms and donate them to primary and secondary schools in Malawi. Members of the Tufts University Engineers Without Borders Malawi Chapter traveled there to monitor and evaluate a water distribution system that was implemented in the southeast African country last year, and to assess the need for projects in two new communities. When they travel for such projects, they also take the opportunity to bring along any items that the communities they visit may need — and on this particular trip, they were asked to bring sports jerseys for the teams. So they took the Medford Soccer uniforms with them to Malawi in late August.

The Medford kits are now being worn by the soccer teams at Chigumukile Primary and Secondary School in Solomoni, Malawi, and the Kasupe Primary School at Makwelani, Malawi (pictured in the photo, taken right before a soccer match). The remaining jerseys will be distributed to more schools that need uniforms for their teams.

Thank you again to Coach Jenn, Sheilagh, and to all of our families for taking the time to donate. Go Medford Soccer!!
